How to promote a successful ministry event
Throughout the years and through many ups and downs in ministry
endeavors, we have found a practical approach to assuring ministry
event/concerts are successful. Our definition of “successful”
isn’t measured by the world’s standards.
Success to us at Bang Theory Music simply means not failing
to achieve what God has purposed for us to accomplish. So if
we don’t have a packed house, or we don’t sell enough
tickets to reach a goal we are still SUCCESSFUL! Not saying
these elements are not important, just saying that if we do
all we can do in the “Possible” realm of handling
responsibilities, God will move on the “Impossible”
things that occur out of our control.
For me and a host of others, our ministries are self funded
and in most cases, also support the financial well being of
our families. We really need organizations to become more educated
and proactive hosts.
So… with that said… Here are the “Possible”
things that we feel should be in place in keeping with a successful
event.
Remember, these are only suggestions.
• Spiritual Preparation
• Physical preparation
• Sound system
• Resources
• Network (if applicable)
• Finances
• Excellent Promo Materials
SPIRITUAL PREPARATION- The prayers of the righteous
are the essentials of a successful event. I mean, how can we
have a Jesus jamboree and forget to invite him? A lot of times,
it seems that we tend to invite him only AT the event. Shouldn’t
we be praying for God’s hand to be in it from concept
to alter call? We all know that once you decide to do something
that is going to rattle the walls of satan’s kingdom,
he will have it out for us. So let us brace ourselves in prayer
IN ADVANCE FIRST THEN THE DAY OF THROUGH THE END OF
EVENT.
PHYSICAL PREPARATION- Being a servant is a
wonderful yet tiresome experience. You may find yourself passing
out flyers at the mall, emailing all your friends about an event,
gathering supplies, moving tables & chairs, lifting sound
systems, setting up lights, and a number of other physical tasks.
Be sure to have “willing vessels” with the ambitions
and hearts of a servant. Be sure that your team gets proper
rest before the event. They will need it to go the distance.
BE PREPARED TO SWEAT!
SOUND SYSTEM- As you know… FAITH
COMES BY HEARING AND HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD! But
if the sound system isn’t adequate enough for these types
of events, how can we be heard? It is important to take every
measure to insure the proper sound equipment and professional
sound technician is in place for maximum results. Any local
audio equipment rental store would be more than happy to help
you get the sound needed in keeping with the venue size. Most
rental companies are very affordable and will even set it up
for an additional fee. Some will loan it to you for free (if
you build that type of relationship with them). Outside of the
spiritual aspects of an event’s mission, clarity of the
sound is the most crucial need to be met.
RESOURCES/NETWORK- Everything need to make
an event a success doesn’t always have to be purchased.
If we pray for Gods favor and know that it is his will for us
to accomplish something from an event, and then first check
your available resources.
Sometimes your neighboring church down the block may have something
that you don’t on purpose so God can unite the body for
one common purpose in that community. Utilizing each others
resources not only helps the cause of an event but it also helps
the world see Gods undivided love through our unity and solidarity.
JUST A THOUGHT…
FINANCES- The best events are well planned
and may be costly. But any cost is a small price to pay considering
the outcome of operating in obedience to God. Here’s a
list of things that you should prep yourselves for well in advance…
• Sound system rental or purchase
• Refreshments for the ministers
• Fees or honorariums (whatever you call it)
• Travel and lodging expenses for the ministers
• Venue leasing (if applicable)
• Flyers
• Commercial on radio (if you really want to draw people
in)
• Food and drink for guests
